Fun events for local and visitors to increase the footfall within the Inner Forth, celebrating the unique and hidden heritage of the area.
For this activity, our team are delivering events, competitions and visiteering opportunities (volunteering opportunities for visitors) within the Inner Forth. Through these experiences, we hope to encourage repeat visits, longer stays and sustainable staycations, plus add to the economic resilience of local businesses.
Where possible, we encourage attendees of these events to use sustainable modes of transport in their landscape and heritage exploration - and we hope they will enjoy spending time in new ways at sites they may not have previously been aware of, that have a unique story to tell as part of the Inner Forth’s past, present and future. All of our events are FREE, thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and keep checking our socials and our Event Calendar for upcoming 2026 dates.
So far, we have worked with Historic Environment Scotland on the following experiences at their sites: Litter Pick and Palace tour at Linlithgow Palace and Blackness Beach clean followed by entry to Blackness Castle. We also asked people to take part in their Monument Monitor Scheme at Antonine Wall - Rough Castle. They're asking visitors to help them monitor the impacts of climate change at heritage sites and, at this site, with flooding monitoring. Over a 2-week period, we asked visitors the site and send in pictures from their visit.
Other heritage-themed events have included a storytelling session for children, a crafty cyanotype workshop and a 'Foody Cycle Tour' with cycling writer, influencer and filmmaker, Markus Stitz.
Finally, we had a very successful first Inner Forth Photography Contest, which received over one hundred entries. The winning pictures can be viewed below. The contest will return in 2026!
