This activity will facilitate and demonstrate how enabling community action can support the transition to a climate resilient landscape. By supporting groups who manage natural or historic (built and cultural) heritage assets to consider what ‘carbon net zero’ may mean for their site(s), it will enable and inspire action to meet Scotland’s net zero climate change targets.
This pilot will focus on locally important heritage, managed by Inner Forth community groups, and the skills and knowledge that they require, to ensure they are delivering management that will allow their sites to adapt to the likely impacts of climate change.
Led by an external consultant, a free training programme will be offered to people or groups within the project area who own and/or manage natural, built or cultural heritage assets, or those wanting to step up to manage an asset but don't consider themselves to have the necessary skills to do so.
The programme of training and mentoring will use existing heritage assets - or landscape areas - as a focus for action-based learning. A series of in-person activities will be created, using specific locations to look at and discuss climate change and biodiversity, identify potential hazards and impacts, and talk through steps for adaptation. The training programmes will include two sub-activities of focus:
- ‘Conversations about heritage and climate’
- ‘Heritage adaptation walk and talks’
