Hands-on learning in the landscape
Five trainees from Falkirk Council’s Employment Training Unit started a thirteen week training programme supervised by TCV at the beginning of October. As part of IFLI project Landscape Management Apprenticeships, the trainees from the Falkirk area will carry out work throughout the landscape on IFLI project sites. In week 1 they took part in scrub clearance at Kinneil Lagoons and grassland management at Bo’mains Meadows. Future weeks will see them carrying out invasive species management, pathworks and coppicing. Through this hands-on land management experience, each trainee will develop their skills and gain qualifications to increase their future employability. This project runs until March 2017, so it is hoped that 30-50 young people will participate in the scheme.
