Blair Castle Heritage Skills
Blair Castle is a Category A Listed building just outside Culross, Fife. Since 1927 it has been owned and used as a Convalescence Home by Scottish Coal Board. Whilst still retaining many original features, sadly the beautiful estate grounds are under used and have been falling into disrepair. Through this training project, the Link Group Ltd in partnership with Community Growing Solutions CIC and The Ecology Centre used the grounds to provide training opportunities in practical estate management skills for local unemployed people and volunteers and to help care for the historic grounds around the house.
The project at Blair Castle Estate ran between August 2014 and October 2015.
Over a 14 month period, the project ran a series of training workshops and events for local unemployed people, volunteers and members of the public to increase skills in practical land management and use of natural materials. 3 estate management training workshops and 6 fun heritage taster events were held. In total, 30 people attended these sessions.
In addition, the project ran 3 community outreach sessions involving miners and their families staying in the house, two local primary schools and residents of Culross. These events helped to promote the project and build links between the Estate and the local community.
